The ingredients we use complement each other nutritionally and please the palate. All dishes are made with freshly ground herbs and spices and contain no MSG. Each dish is spiced to enhance its particular aroma and flavor. The spices do not make the dishes hot.

Please bear in mind that Indian food is not “fast food” and that our dishes take time to prepare. Your patience will be rewarded.

Rang Jamaye! Enjoy!
Norman Butler came to the U.S.  in 1997 and noticed something missing from the wonderful town of Northfield. There was no English Pub and no Indian restaurant. Both of which he was used to in his native England. The number one dish in England is Chicken Tikka Masala.

After having a small shop in the Archer House in Northfield, Norman came to know Barbara Hill who owned Treats also in the Archer House.  Barbara decided to sell Treats which Norman bought in 1999 and turned it into Chapati.

In 1999 Norman added 2 unique offerings to Northfield, The Contented Cow Pub and Chapati Indian restaurant despite advise that neither would work.

2009 is the 10th anniversary for both establishments. Both have been a huge success and a great addition to Northfield.

In 2004 another Chapati was opened in Edina. It has done well and earned "The Best Hidden Gem" award from the Star Tribune in 2006.   In August 2009 Norman bought another restaurant in Northfield that had closed and is in the process of turning it into Butler's Steak & Ale, which will open Wed. Sept 2, 2009. In September 2009, just one month shy of it's 5th anniversary, Norman is selling Chapati Edina.

Norman knows Indian food and requires that his restaurant have the best Indian chefs who use quality ingredients.

Approached by many communities including Mankato, Faribault, Sioux Fall, SD, Rochester, St. Louis Park, Winona and the latest, the Mall of America, Norman has been asked to open more Chapati restaurants.
